Masterson’s Tavern , nestled in the bustling area of Moonee Ponds , markets itself as a trendy “hipster” hangout , but my unfortunate encounter at this establishment quickly devolved into an unforgettable, terrible experience. While the bar may appear inviting from the outside , what I experienced behind its doors was shocking and unacceptable on multiple levels .
Cleanliness Issues : Filthy and Neglected
From the moment I stepped inside , it was evident that upkeep was not a priority at this venue. The floorboards were filthy, and a pungent odor of old alcohol and dirty bathrooms permeated the entire bar . With a smell of a mixture of urine , decay and sour vomit . The main bar, which should be the centerpiece of any pub, was piled high with used mugs and trash that looked like it had been ignored for a long time . The toilet was in even more deplorable shape — clogged , with a shattered handle and walls covered in what I can only assume was feces.
